Small-Screen Prehistorics

TOM CORBETT coloring book

Quite a few television series and TV movies, both of the  live action and animated-cartoon varieties, have featured dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures and/or which have spawned “prehistoric” items to collect (CLICK ON, for example, The Flintstones Land of the Lost, Dino-Riders, Dinosaurs and Ultraman).  Prehistoric animals and “cavemen” began appearing on TV shows in the early 1950s on programs like Tom Corbett, Space Cadet, when, in 1951 (our time), the crew of the rocketship Polaris encountered dinosaurs on a Mesozoic-Era planet in the Alpha Centauri star system (see Saalfield Publishing Company’s 1952 coloring book recreation, left, the fanciful dinosaur loosely based on the Tyrannosaurus depicted in a mural by artist Charles R. Knight ).

I wrote the cover story for that Twilight Zone comic book.
