During the 1980s my friend David Thomas created this bronze Pentaceratops (a Late Cretaceous horned dinosaur) statue — nicknamed “Spike,” for obvious reasons — for the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science in Albuqureque. I saw the statue for the first time when booked by the museum to give my “Fantasy Dinosaurs of the Movies” lecture. As you can see from these photos snapped by Dave, I tried my best to add the giant sculpture to my personal collection. I had to be satisifed, a couple years later, with obtaining a couple of considerably smalller Thomas bronzes, a Ceratosaurus, Allosaurus and Albertosaurus, which now reside in my living room.
Below, a souvenir postcard showing “Spike” outside the museum in 1985; also,.a publicity photo of the recently unveiled “Spike.”
