“Ultraman” Prehistoric Monsters

Countless toys and publications have been based upon Gomora, Red (and Black) King and other fictitious and fanciful prehistoric monsters (Kaiju) — most of them super-technologically enhanced —  featured on the Japanese Ultraman (a giant alien super-hero) television series. and its many sequels and movies, from Tsuburaya Productions, the company that did the special effects in the older Godzilla movies, also from its predecessor Ultra Q.  Godzilla was even revamped as Gomess (Gomez) for the premiere episode of Ultra Q and. again renamed as Jirahs,  and given a flashy neck frill for an appearance on the first season of Ultraman (see below). Other prehistoric monsters like Baragon, from the Godzilla movies, were given makeovers to appear on the Ultra Q, Ultraman and later Ultra Seven TV shows.

In 1979 I was hired by Tsuuraya to write a screenplay with mutated prehistoric creatures for a movie entitled Ultraman, Hero from the Stars, which sadly did not go into production.
