The Far Side is a single-panel comic strip created by Gary Larson that often features prehistoric themes including dinosaurs and, more often, Neanderthals in their versions of modern situations. Larson’s cartoon depicting dinosaurs smoking cigarettes has become a classic and has been featured on greeting cards, shirts, coffee mugs and many other items. It can still be seen attached to bulletin boards in museums and paleontologists’ offices. And some paleontologists now informally to the tail spikes on a Stegosaurus as a “thagamizer.”
