“Tar Pits” in 3D

 

 

 

During the latter half of the 19th Century and into the 1920s, stereopticon views were all the rage — and many of them were views of paleontological exhibits. A lot of such three-dimensional views taken at Rancho La Brea — Los Angeles’ famous “Tar Pits” — were sold during the early 20th Century.

Here are some of those stereo views, taken from 1909 through the early 1920.
