John Goodwin Movie-Dinosaur Sculptures

Motion-picture dinosaurs sculpted by Emmy winner John Goodwin — including prehistoric creatures from (top to bottom) The Animal World, Dinosaurus!, The Land Unknown and Gorgo.

John’s own movie (2023):

MONSTER TIMES GORGO

Newspaper advertisements, with the Chicago Sun-Times oddly changing the word order in the title The Land Unknown:

These movie prehistoric creatures also enjoyed some minor merchandising, though not necessarily “officially.” This Flashcards postcard (1984) shows someone apparently dreaming about the Ceratosaurus from The Animal World.

Although this plastic toy Apatosaurus (the Brontosaurus from Marx’s “Prehistoric Times” playset) was not an officially merchandised item, the figure, I believe, was patterned after the stop-motion model animated by Ray Harryhausen and Willis O’Brien in The Animal World.

These screen dinosaurs also enjoyed having their movies adapted to comic books (below). Gorgo even proved popular enough to have its original comic-book adaptation spin-off into its own continuing series. There was also a Gorgo paperback novelization (with added sex scenes not in the movie).
